It’s May and we have about three weeks to go to the annual Eurovision contest. It will happen next month. Get excited! Though the contest was canceled last year and faces strict protocols due to the current pandemic, we can still enjoy this international contest from anywhere in the world.
Each day, I will feature a song from one of the countries that are in this year’s Eurovision. Like 2019, I will make my own predictions of who will make it to the finals and maybe win the competition. Good luck to those who are competing!
Samanta Tīna’s “The Moon Is Rising”
This song is about powerful and admirable women, about every single one of us. I invite women to not be afraid of ourselves and of being different. My song encourages women to make a crown with their own hands and put it on the head to be the ruler of life. To love and believe in ourselves. Then we will be loved by the people around us.
I believe that your attitude towards yourself changes the way people treat you, but it is not enough. And for this reason, the most important line in my song is: if you have something to say, say it to my face. Let’s accept and love ourselves, let’s be proud of what God has given us, let’s accept our differences, and stand for equality!
Powerhouse pop singer Samanta Tīna is representing Latvia in this year’s Eurovision competition with the song “The Moon is Rising”. Tina’s vocals are a force to reckon with, as you can hear in the very first verses. She displays everything she has vocally in the first verse with such vigor and talent. However, it might be too much for a trap song as she might be overpowering the instrumentation and the mood of the song. Don’t get me wrong, Tina is a great vocalist, but I think it isn’t right for a song like “The Moon is Rising”.
The instrumentation is annoying and can turn people off, especially with one synthesized bit that goes back and forth. Also, the song doesn’t really progress lyrically or melodically. It just flatlines from beginning to end. With these reasons mentioned, I don’t think “The Moon is Rising” will make it to the finals.
