Happy #SongLyricsSunday. Today’s prompt is to find a song with “space”, “planets”, and/or “aliens” in the song lyrics or title. My choice is maybe an obscure choice for some readers, but it has something I have been listening to recently. I choose “Uchuu de La Ta Ta” (宇宙でLa Ta Ta; La Ta Ta in Space) by former Japanese pop group Taiyou to Ciscomoon. This four-member girl group was active from 1998 to 2000, being the big sisters of their sister Morning Musume. (which is one of my favorite groups). Although Taiyou to Ciscomoon was short-lived, they had some impressive singles like “Uchuu de La Ta Ta”. Let’s explore the song down below.
Just Like Outer Space
“Uchuu de La Ta Ta” was the group’s third single that was released on July 28, 1999. It was written entirely by Tsunku, who wrote a ton of songs for Hello! Project (the umbrella group that Taiyou to Ciscomoon was part of) from 1998 to 2015. He is still writing songs from time to time since 2015, but he backed off a bit since he had his vocal cords due to cancer. Yet, Tunku was influenced by groove, soul, funk, and disco when he was writing “Uchuu de La Ta Ta”. It reflected on the member’s vocal and performance skills. These skills were learned when the member went for training in various cities around the US before the group’s debut.
The lyrics reflect on a woman’s feelings when she is in love. Ever since she met the man she is in loved with, the woman felt like she is dancing (or la ta ta) in space as she is happier and feeling light and dizzy. There must have been some sort of magic because she felt things are different. I think people (especially women) who feel the same way mentioned in the lyrics when they first fell in love.

Another Tsunku-produced group EE Jump covered the song. There has been so many different covers within in Hello1 Project, but EE Jump wasn’t part of Hello! Project and they had a unusual history asa group. Also, they have a different spin on the song. This version is low quality as the song was never released.
