The theme is “Dawn/Noon/Dusk/Midnight/Nocturnal/Diurnal”. Here is my choice:
BoA has been one of my favorite Korean pop stars since I discovered Kpop in 2002. I remember that I bought her “No. 1” album in Koreantown nearby LA in 2002 as my first CD by an Asian artist. I knew the Korean diva before though as I watched her Japanese music videos on the internet.
This Korean popstar got her start in 2000, which she was about 12 or 13. She is a extremely talented singer as she has a great range and balanced tone. She is popular all around Asia, making her debut in Japan in 2002, and somewhat in the western world, as she had a failed English album released in 2009. even though her release pace has slowed down a bit in recent years, she release a Japanese and a Korean album last year.
Today’s pick is the Korean version of “Moon and Sunrise”, which is from the single “Rock With You” (Korean Version). The Japanese version of the song originally appeared on her third album Valenti. The Japanese lyrics were translated by Natsumi Watanabe, who wrote songs for many Japanese top artists like Namie Amuro, Wink, Junichi Inagaki, w-inds, Nami Tamaki, and etc. She even wrote the lyrics to one of my favorite songs: Takako Uehara’s “Glory ~Kimi ga Iru Kara~”.
“Moon and Sunrise” is a typical mid-tempo ballad that you would hear from the late 90s and early 2000s. But, because it is BoA, it is a worthwhile listen due to her unique vocals and great range.
