It’s April and we have less than 60 days till the annual Eurovision contest that will happen next month. Get excited! If you don’t know what Eurovision is, I wrote a detailed post about the contest a couple of years ago. Basically, it is a singing contest where various countries around the world, mostly in Europe, compete in a week-long competition. It started in 1951 with only seven countries participating. But now in 2022, there will be forty countries competing in Turin, Italy. It is a huge event in the music world and across the globe.
(The US is currently running their own version of the contest called the American Song Contest right now on NBC. I might do a recap during Golden Week if I am lucky.)
I am back with my series “Road to Eurovision”, predicting who will win this year’s contest. Each day, I will feature a song from one of the countries. Then, I will make my own predictions of who will make it to the finals and win the competition. Good luck to those who are competing!

Let’s get started!
S10’s “De diepte” (The depth)
Nederhop/Alternative pops singer-songwriter S10 (Stien den Hollander) is representing the Netherlands with her song “De diepte”. The lyrics talk about the artist’s most personal memories. It’s a tribute to the sadness and memories that you carry with you. Everyone experiences difficult times in their lives. That’s something we all have in common and I hope [people] will feel less alone when [they] listen to the song”.[1]
This is such a powerful yet emotional song, I think what makes this song so powerful is the dynamics in the instrumentation. It starts soft with an acoustic guitar, then slowly builds from that to a piano-driven melody to big energy in the chorus with strong instrumentation. But, the power also lies in the artist’s vocals as they soar melodically throughout.
I think this song has so much potential and will move listeners during the semi-finals. It will make it to the finals.
My Eurovision 2021 Predictions
Here are my predictions for this year’s contest. These are my own opinions and I am not getting paid or endorsed for them.
