Recently, I talked with UK Pop–Urban artist Romel via email about his recent release “Do It”. We talked about his musical influences, who he has worked with, and his latest release. Check out the interview below! Also, while you are reading, check out Romel’s recent single and let me know what you think in the comments below!
Please introduce yourself!
My name is Romel, which is my real name, I’m from the UK with a Nigerian background. I like to describe myself as an artist who can make anything pop.
What musical genre and artists influence your music?
I listen to any genre of music as long as the melody catches my attention. A lot of artists influenced my music, but the top 5 would be Michael Jackson, Frankie Lymon and Brenda Fassie, Angelique Kidjo, and Jax Jones, this list can also change depending on how I am feeling.
How was 2020 like as an artist?
What are some good things that happened this year? I went Number one twice this year on the music week Black music chart.
Let’s talk about your latest single “Do It”. What is it about?
It’s about doing whatever you want to do without thinking too much about it.
How was it working with Slic Vic? What did you learn from him?
Working with Slic is one of the most amazing things, not just because he is a good producer (which he is) but the chemistry is on another level. He knows what I want in a song and I don’t even need to ask; he just knows!
Tell me more about the lyrics! What is the message? How did you get that message?
The song came naturally, guess because we were talking about partying and having a good time, and when we started making the song, it just came up.
“Do It” features Portuguese actress Juliana Baros as backing vocals. How did that happen? And, how was it working with her?
The song was already done when I came up with the idea but during the mixing, I felt something was missing. I rang up my friend Juliana and she just recorded the vocals and sent them over – that was it.
What do you want listeners to listen for in your music?
The art.
What are your future plans?
I want to be one of the biggest artists to ever be exported from the UK.
Finally, do you have any message for the readers of AiLoveMusic?
Give my music a chance and you may never leave.
