The mysteries! The beginning! The end! It can only mean one thing; it’s #SongLyricsSunday.
For this week’s prompt, it’s all about “Begin/End/Finish/Start”. For this, I picked Japanese pop singer-songwriter Rina Aiuchi’s 2004 song “START”. It is because I have been listening to her discography lately. But also, many other songs from the show that featured “START”. Which show was that? Continue on to find out.
(This is part of a #SongLyricsSunday challenge, which is hosted by Jim at An Unique Title For Me. Anyone can join! Details on how to participate are found at the end of this post!)
Let’s Hit The Restart Button
“START” was Rina Aiuchi’s 17th single that was released in 2004. It was also one of many songs that were used in the mega-popular and super-long anime series Detective Conan (which is in its 24th season), The lyrics were written by Rina Aiuchi herself and composed by Aika Ono, who has written many songs for Aiuchi’s former labelmates like Mai Kuraki, sweet velvet, ZARD, and Field of View.
This 2004 song is one of my favorites out of Aiuchi’s 10-year discography. It really sounds like a song made for a detective show: the mystery, the strong beat, the high power energy, and the blazing guitar solos that add an edge to the tune You never know where this song is going until the end.
What do you think of “START”? Listen to the song below and let me know in the comments!

Lyrics for Rina Aiuchi’s “Start”
These are the English translation of the lyrics. Credit goes to Kikyosama at AnimeLyrics.net:
Let’s put and end to this and go back to the start
We’re not gonna let all the wishing and giving up faze us anymore
The sun’s coming up, so it’s time to open your eyes, don’t you think?
It’s because you want to get up now that your eyes have spotted the sun
We don’t even realise it, that we’re so good at taking
That there’s no way we can be beautiful
The things that we all want to get through
Aren’t something tangible, and they aren’t words
We can’t put a name to them
Let’s go back to the start, I want to reset with you
And take the next chance that comes our way
Let’s go back to the start, back from all the days up until now
I don’t mind if my future with you is uncertain
OK, ready, go! We want to go somewhere
OK, ready, go! We can’t go anywhere
OK, ready, go! Where to go from here?
OK, ready, go! Should we go or come back?
OK, ready, go! Coming and going
We won’t see anything if we don’t go, OK, ready, go!
The long, long time “from now”
Is surely just a succession of moments, “now”s
On this one road we’ve chosen
We’ll give the one life we’ve been given to walk that road
Yes, dreams are something you can only do when there are restrictions
Let’s go back to the start, I want to reset with you
And take the next chance that comes our way
Let’s put and end to this and go back to the start
Let’s kick our hearts into gear right now
Let’s take a chance
The wings of freedom, the pain that’s been born
Both take hope and planning
I won’t fly away again
Until I’m with you
OK, ready, go! Should we go or come back?
OK, ready, go! Coming and going
We won’t see anything if we don’t go, OK, ready, go!
Let’s go back to the start, I want to reset with you
And take the next chance that comes our way
Let’s put and end to this and go back to the start
I’m gonna take hold of the future I want to have with you
OK, ready, go! We want to go somewhere
OK, ready, go! We can’t go anywhere
OK, ready, go! Where to go from here?
OK, ready, go! Should we go or come back?
OK, ready, go! Coming and going
We won’t see anything if we don’t go, OK, ready, go!
OK, ready, go! Let’s go back to the start
