About The Single “Survivors”
She hopes that listeners would takeaway the idea of them seeing them as survivors if they are still trucking along. There are better days to come. But also, Chavez hopes that listeners would check out the guitar solo as she is super happy about how it turned out.
Chavez told me that she initially wrote the song a while back. However, she shelved it. When she released “My America”, the singer-songwriter decided to bring “Survivors” back and try to release it. The reason was the progression of events from COVID-19 to the events mentioned in “My America” inspired the singer-songwriter to release “Survivors”.
Interestingly enough, everyone in the band recorded their parts for the songs at their own homes. “I have a basic idea of what I wanted things to be,” Chavez explained about the song’s production, “I strip it all the way back to just the guitar and drums. And see what they would do. If it didn’t, then I would reworked it. If I liked something they did, which was almost all the time, then I would rework the song.”
One of things that Chavez strived for in this EP was to get her guitar player out of his shell. She explained me that even though Chris ‘Lefty’ Vargas is a new member, he has so much potential. However, the guitarist had to come out of his shell to hone his sound for the band. Getting him to define his sound. You can hear within the tracks coming out of his shell with the amazing chords and melodies he plays.
“It is a story in and of itself,” the singer-songwriter discussed the EP’s concept, “It is about the last year roughly.” She also explained that the EP is a collection of diverse songs that just come together. She was inspired by the state of the world when writing each song’s lyrics. She wanted to tell of current events in her perspective.
