American singer-songwriter Leezy bares her emotions in the most intimate setting with her latest single “Sierra”. The track tells of her journey from rock bottom to sobriety. “The biggest thing is that the song is about my own personal journey, and that’s where I drew inspiration from — but regardless of if you’ve struggled with addiction, everyone has struggled with something, and everyone can relate to the feeling of wanting to get better.”
Leezy’s “Sierra” is a dramatic track with a touch of both light and dark motifs. At the beginning with the verses, the singer-songwriter touches on the light musical motif with soft volumes, piano-led melodies, and a bare instrumental with just Leezy’s angelic vocals and a piano. But then at the chorus, just when emotions flood in, the track switches with a heavy rock-influenced instrumental with heavy guitar riffs and a roughness to represent a dark musical motif.
In the middle of this musical hurricane of sounds and textures are the singer-songwriter’s own vocals. They are a reminiscence of Lana Del Ray’s own style mixture with Billie Eilish’s style of honesty. Leezy’s own vocals are a beacon in this song as they remain constant with their angelic, sweet tones in the flurry surrounding them. Leezy tackles her penchant for the gritty and authentic with her honest stories with the contrasting sounds in the instrumentation while staying true to herself in the vocals.

About the Artist: Leezy
At just 21 years old, the Chicago-based singer-songwriter exudes wisdom far beyond her years. Leezy is unable to remember a time when she wasn’t singing — she recalls a musical childhood, surrounded by theater and the arts. She’s kept a daily journal since she was ten years old, always ready to be in touch with her internal dialogue.
Leezy has worked to lock in her own sound, never relinquishing the memory of her darker chapters. Managing to incorporate the rock elements of the late 90s and early 2000s into her bright sound, Leezy matches her penchant for the gritty and authentic with her honest stories. She is inspired by the likes of Elliot Smith but speaks to a new generation with her unique life experience, hoping to make listeners feel less alone in their individual journeys, particularly other young people.
