Swedish electropop artist Juliander is on a roll this year. The multi-instrumentalist just released two singles, “Cold Shoulder” and “Who Am I Without You” within the first six months of 2022. He will also release a new album in the autumn. Juliander chatted with ai love music via email about these releases, his hopes for the upcoming album, and what are his influences. Check out the interview below, but also the two singles! What is your favorite track? Is there something you like about Juliander’s music? Let me know in the comments!
First of all, please introduce yourself! How did you get into music and why did you do so?
Hi, my name is Juliander, I’m an artist, songwriter, and producer from Sweden. I’ve always been interested in music. I never did sports as a kid, always sang or danced. Now I love every aspect of music and I’m finally able to take an idea and make it a reality.Pressphoto Juliander 2022. Photo by Fredrik Etoall.
What artists and genres influence your music?
Some artist that influences me is Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Tyler The Creator, Bon Iver, and The 1975 to name a few.
What has 2022 been like so far?
It’s been great. I’m excited to finally release music again and show everyone what I’ve been working on.
Any fun summer plans with your music?
Going to keep on creating during the summer. Hopefully some fun summer gigs. I’m actually joining Alan Walker on Summerburst on Saturday.
Let’s talk about your newest single ”Cold Shoulder”. What is it about and how did you find its inspiration?
”Cold Shoulder” is about getting rejected but still feeling a connection. Someone is reeling you in but as soon as you want something more they ignore you or give you the Cold Shoulder.
How was it like capturing the song’s emotional soundscape musically?
We used a lot of analog vintage synths in the production which is one of my favorite instruments. There’s just something special about instruments that were created before I was born. So much depth and emotion.
What was the most important element you really wanted to highlight in this song?
I love the energy throughout the whole song. I think that’s my favorite element.
Let’s talk about your upcoming debut album. Could you tell us a little about it?
I’m really excited. Been working a lot on this project and can’t wait for you to hear it.
Name one thing you really want listeners to listen to in your music.
I really want my listeners to listen to the lyrics in my music. It’s the backbone of every song I do and I think you get the full picture when you understand the lyrics and story of the song.
Any future plans besides the album?
Just keep getting better and better at making music and hopefully more people hear it.
