Hello! Please introduce yourself to those who don’t know you!
Hey, I’m Jayme! I’m a Canadian country singer and songwriter from Keswick, ON. I’ve been singing and performing since I was about 10 years old, and I started playing guitar and writing songs shortly after that. Aside from my obvious obsession with music, I also love popcorn, mimosas, Friends (tv show), and my family, friends, and fans! My mission is to connect with people and inspire, empower, and uplift them through my music.
How did you get into music? What has that journey been like?
Funny enough, I was dragged to a choir class by my friend when I was pretty young. I didn’t want to go at first, but then I realized how much I really love singing! Then I discovered Taylor Swift, and she inspired me to learn guitar so I can write my own songs. The journey has been a roller coaster – sometimes fun and sometimes scary! Chasing your dreams is not always easy, but it is always worth it. I’ve learned a lot along the way so far and I’m really grateful for every high and low.
What musical genres and/or artists influence your artistry?
I enjoy all kinds of music, though I would say the biggest influences on my artistry have been those in country and pop genres. Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne, Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, and the list goes on! Each of these artists has inspired me in so many different ways – I wouldn’t be the artist I am now without them.
It’s 2022! What is one goal you set for yourself for this year?
Before the pandemic, I spread myself way too thin with how busy I made myself. Once the pandemic hit and a lot of things were put on hold, it was like I could breathe again. As things keep getting busier and busier for me (which I love being busy), I want to make sure I take moments for myself and my loved ones. I want to make sure I take time to breathe, love, recharge, have fun, and make memories.
You have worked and performed with so many amazing artists and producers. What is one thing they taught you?
To work hard but also have fun. Being an independent artist takes a lot of work, time, and effort, and it’s easy to get caught up in it and feel crazy. It’s so important to take the time to celebrate even the little wins and enjoy the journey.
Let’s talk about “No Complaints”. What is it about?
“No Complaints” is like an anthem for the daydreamers out there. It’s about everything going your way, and it’s about all the scenarios I’d have ‘No Complaints’ about, such as going on a tropical beach vacation. This track is my favourite thing I’ve ever done! I feel like it’s a genuine extension of who I am – it’s silly, light-hearted, and fun!
What inspired you to write it?
When I started writing “No Complaints,” it was actually more about a girl in high school that was bullying me. This part is now just the bridge of the song, but it was a cheeky way for me to both rise above this bully and fight back just a little.
How was it working with Adam Newcomb on this track?
Awesome! I’ve had the pleasure of working with Adam quite a bit now, and he’s truly great. We have lots of laughs in the studio, and he’s as friendly and down-to-earth as he is talented – and he is super talented!
What things do you want listeners to listen for in “No Complaints”?
Listen for the space in the song to drift into your own dream world.
What’s next?
The music video for “No Complaints” is coming out next. It’s going to be next-level awesome – I’m super excited about it! I also have more music coming out after that, including my debut EP which is set to be released in late 2022.
