First of all, please introduce yourself!
Born Faquama Anthony, F.A, in Monrovia Liberia. Singer, songwriter, musician.
How did you get into music? What has your music career like since you started?
I’ve always loved singing. I started off in the youth choir at an early age in the church, and then was also part of a singing groups during high school. Music has always been a passion for me. A way of expression.
Regarding my music career, I had to make a decision to either stay in the US where I relocated at an earlier age to work the 9-5, which was easier, but I made the sacrifice to follow my dreams by moving back to Liberia in order to pursue my music career as an afrobeat artist.
What musical influences and artists influence you?
Musically, I’m influenced by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Steve Wonder, Miatta Fahnbulleh. Yousef N’Dour and Boyz II Men, to name a few. Seeing the way they perform and the passion they show in doing their craft is inspiring.
You have worked with so many different and famous artists. What was it like working and sharing the stage with them? What did you learn from them?
It’s always a great feeling being able to share the stage with other great acts. Watching them perform and the energy the crowd gives is amazing. You learn to appreciate the craft even more.
Let’s talk about your latest single “Bartender 2”. What is it about?
“Bartender 2 “is an afrobeat, Amapiano style party song that keeps you dancing. Telling the bartender to keep the drinks coming, “one more round “.
What inspired you to write this song? What was the writing process like? What was your favorite part?
I first wrote the first version of “Bartender “couple years back. It was a more laidback version. The whole idea was to do a song wanting to party and drink the night away without any interruptions, responsibly. So, writing the second one was even more fun, especially with the new sound produced by Duke Blac.
What do you want listeners to listen for in your music?
I want listeners to hear the words, the soul in the voice because every song has a different vibe, its own story.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m looking forward to releasing another album. Getting back to performing in large venues again, festivals and more.
