The finals for the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest are tonight! 26 countries are competing for the chance to number one country in this musical competition: to take home the trophy and also be the host country for the 2022 Eurovision. Take a look at which act I think will become the winner of tonight’s competition. I also feature my Top 5 in this post, so check that out!
A Recap on Eurovision 2021
Eurovision is a song contest that had 39 countries compete in The Netherlands the year. This past Tuesday, we saw 16 countries compete in the first round of the semi-finals while another 17 competed in the second round. 20 acts from these two rounds were selected by the jury as well as the audience across Europe and Australia. These 20 will be joined with 6 acts (that were automatically qualified) for the finals.
If you followed me with my Eurovision 2021 posts this month and last, you would know that I had a prediction scorecard going on. For the first round of the semi-finals, I got 6 out of 10 right. I was really disappointed with Romania, Australia, and Croatia not being qualified as I thought they had really good songs. Especially with Romania with a really powerful message about the need for self-love that is such an important one. I really love “Self-Love Amnesia” by Roxen and was really bummed that it didn’t make it to the finals. I also wanted Slovenia to make it to the finals, but I guess the performance wasn’t powerful enough to make an impression on the jury or audience.
For the second round, I got 8 out of 10 acts right. I was really disappointed with the performance by Poland as Rafal really took the easy route and sang behind the backing vocals like he wasn’t putting any effort into the performance. I did like the special surprise during the performance for San Marino by Senhit (you have to click the link to see what surprise because I wouldn’t spoil it here). I am also grateful that Daði og Gagnamagnið made it to the final despite not performing live (they used rehearsal footage during the competition) as a member tested positive for COVID-19.
Here are my top 5 picks for who will win the Eurovision contest tonight:
1. Ukraine: “Shum” by Go_A
I think it will win because it is a pretty catchy song: great vocals and instrumentations. And, that performance during the semi-finals is top-notch. Just watch during the instrumental break, it is wicked beat. “Shum” is such an earworm and also the performance is wicked!
2. Switzerland: “Tout l’Univers” by Gjon’s Tears
3. Iceland: “10 Years” by Daði og Gagnamagni
4. France: “Voilà” by Barbara Pravi
I really love “Voilà”. I think I love everything about it: the mood, the instrumentation, the vocals, and how the song moves from start to finish. It is a lovely song and there isn’t anything that really makes “Voilà” a bad song. It is composed really well and Pravi’s performance is really neat. Overall, it is a beautiful song!
Here are my top ten choices for the Finals result. These are just my predictions and are not, in any way, the real results.
