This week’s #SongLyricsSunday is about “Air/Earth/Fire/Water”. Even though these words might not be this in classic band’s lyrics, I am going to choose a song by the legendary band. Why? Because I love, especially “Boogie Wonderland” (with the female vocal group The Emotions).
I especially love the 12-inch version of the classic disco song as there is more to party/dance with (even though it isn’t supposed to be a positive song, say what?!! But nevertheless, this classic 70s song is a fantastic classic tune that you will have you dancing!
(This is part of a #SongLyricsSunday challenge, which is hosted by Jim at. Anyone can join! Details on how to participate are found at the end of this post!)
The Story Behind “Boogie Wonderland
Boogie Wonderland”, a single released in 1979, was written by Allee Willis (who wrote a lot of songs like the Friends theme song and Jon Lind (who wrote Vanessa Williams’ “Save the Best for Last” and Madonna’s “Crazy for You”). When writing the classic tune, the duo was inspired by the movie Looking for Mr. Goodbar. In an interview with Songfact, Willis had to say about the lyrics and their inspiration:
AFTER READING THIS INTERVIEW WITH WILLIS, ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS WOW!. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT THIS 70S TUNE WAS A HAPPY ONE, BUT IT IS INSTEAD A DARK ONE. WOW! HOWEVER, I LIKE THE HEAVILY ORCHESTRATED SOUND A LOT. THAT IS WHY “BOOGIE WONDERLAND” IS MY FAVORITE.
Listen to “Boogie Wonderland” down below and let me know what you think of the tune in the comments. I also included some covers by other artists down below.
One of my favorite modern day jazz band Shakatak did a cover on their 1999 album Jazz in the Night. I love Shakatak and smooth jazz (there are many haters out there but smooth jazz is so good):
The late Britney Murphy covered the tune for the 2006 movie Happy Feet:
Allee Willis died last December at the age of 72. The American morning show Good Morning America remembered the songwriter:
Lyrics for Boogie Wonderland
Dance, boogie wonderland
Midnight creeps so slowly into hearts of men
Who need more than they get
Daylight deals a bad hand to a woman
Who has laid too many bets
The mirror stares you in the face
And says “Baby, uh, uh, it don’t work”
You say your prayers though you don’t care
You dance and shake the hurt
Dance, boogie wonderland
Sound fly through the night
I chase my vinyl dreams to boogie wonderland
I find romance when I start to dance in boogie wonderland
I find romance when I start to dance in boogie wonderland
All the love in the world can’t be gone
All the need to be loved can’t be wrong
All the records are playing and my heart keeps saying
“Boogie wonderland, wonderland”
Dance, boogie wonderland
I find romance when I start to dance in boogie wonderland
I find romance when I start to dance in boogie wonderland
Dance, dance, dance, dance
Dance, dance, dance, dance
Wonderland, wonderland
All the love in the world can’t be gone
All the need to be loved can’t be wrong
All the records are playing and my heart keeps saying
“Boogie wonderland, wonderland”
Dance, boogie wonderland
I find romance when I start to dance in boogie wonderland
