Toronto-based pop artist Dani Doucette has recently released her first EP entitled Run With Me. She talked to ai love music about her artistry, her influences, and what was it like to create the EP.
In 2020, Dani signed with MDC Music and began to make a name for herself in the Toronto music scene by performing at various drive-in concerts, live-streamed performances, and a host of digital/live hybrid showcases during the pandemic. Dani has also found a strong digital fanbase in the virtual-world gaming platform, called Avakin. She later released the singles “On My Mind” and “Selfish,” and in 2021 released “Craved,” “Dead in The Water,” and was a featured artist and co-writer on the Soundhaven song “Sugar Free”.
Check out below what textures and sounds Dani wanted to incorporate in this EP. Also, make sure to listen to the EP down below. What was your favorite track? Let me know in the comments!
Hello! Please introduce yourself to those who don’t know you!
Dani Doucette, a Pop artist from Toronto, Canada.
How did you get into music? What has that journey been like since then?
I’ve been in music my whole life. Since I was a little girl, I started writing songs at 6 years old. Ever since then, I’ve been on a journey that has been a challenge, but I’ve learned a lot about myself and my artistry that way. Over the last few years, I’ve really hit my stride which now lives as an album releasing on January 14th. It’s been an exciting few years.
What musical genres and/or artists influence the band’s music?
The music I write is mostly Pop/R&B, however, I like to cross genres and experiment without the parameters of being so stuck in a genre. If I were to compare myself to some larger artists, it would be Dua Lipa, Halsey, and Leona Lewis. These women have crossed from pop into the house genre like me.
It’s 2022! What is one thing you want to do this year?
Go on tour. So badly! It would be a dream to hit the road. Especially since the last two years have been so limiting for musicians/artists LIVE.
Let’s talk about your new EP “Run With Me”. Is there a singular theme within the tracks or many? What is those theme(s)?
Each song is a story. Some have been written for a while, some more recently. I think the real theme of the album is transparency and just a whole catch-up of my material until now. The title invites people to join me on this journey. I feel listeners will get a good idea of who I am authentically listening to this collection, have a lot of fun while doing it, and hopefully cause some really great feeling of acceptance and happiness. I make music to connect.
What were some textures, sounds, and/or words that you wanted to include in this EP?
Ethereal, Elevating, Immersive, Bright, and Real.
What was production like? How was working with a team to make this EP happen?
I worked with so many people on this and honestly, it made the last two crazy years really fun. My team is the best.
What do you want listeners to take away from the EP?
Like they were taken to the DANIVERSE on a euphoric trip and don’t wanna come back to reality.…… Then listen to it over and over again.
Any future plans?
So many! Music videos and a single release in February! Stay tuned.
