It’s April and we have less than 60 days till the annual Eurovision contest that will happen next month. Get excited! If you don’t know what Eurovision is, I wrote a detailed post about the contest a couple of years ago. Basically, it is a singing contest where various countries around the world, mostly in Europe, compete in a week-long competition. It started in 1951 with only seven countries participating. But now in 2022, there will be forty countries competing in Turin, Italy. It is a huge event in the music world and across the glob(The US is currently running their own version of the contest called the American Song Contest right now on NBC. I might do a recap during Golden Week if I am lucky.)
I am back with my series “Road to Eurovision”, predicting who will win this year’s contest. Each day, I will feature a song from one of the countries. Then, I will make my own predictions of who will make it to the finals and win the competition. Good luck to those who are competing!
Citi Zēni‘s “Eat Your Salad”
This rap-pop song is catchy as hell. The chorus is something to listen to with all those luscious, deep vocals from bassist and vocalist Roberts Memmēns. The funk-inspired melodies in the instrumentation are very addictive. It is filled with a variety of colors and musical textures that automatically peaks the listener’s audience.
The part I am a little bit wary of is the rap parts as they aren’t bad, but feels out of place at times. The lyrics are also meaningful and important to listen to, but I rather say that being a vegan is heroic or glamorous than sexy. I don’t know, maybe I am turning into a grandma. When I was 16 years old, I would call it sexy. But, now in my thirties, I would call it heroic or glamorous. But hey, the message of being vegan is sexy fits the song’s vibe and makes this song more memorable.
“Eat Your Salad” is an upbeat, funky tune that will have many people dance along during their semi-finals performance. It is a fun performance, but hopefully, the group doesn’t go too over the top (because if they do, it might run the song), Overall, I think this song by Citi Zēni will go to the finals as the song’s message of being vegan and eco-friendly is very important, but also it irresistible.
