London-based rock-pop singer-songwriter Abi Mia is on a roll. She first released her first 2021 single, entitled “Enough is Enough”, during the early part of the year. Then, the artist released a gorgeous upbeat pop ballad entitled “Checking In” in May. Now, she is back with another single entitled “Good Intentions”. How will that single fare? Is it a bop or flop? ‘Good Intentions’ was inspired by a friendship I had for a long time that just seemed to be so imbalanced. They were never there for me when I actually needed them and this song is that empowering moment of realisation that I could just walk away and not let this person negatively effect my life anymore!

“Good Intentions” shows a different side of Abi Mia’s songwriting and skills. This time, she chooses to showcase a stripped-down sound. The instrumentation in the song is an acoustic piano, the vocals, a drum kit, and a synthesizer. However, don’t take this approach of minimization to be a lack of beauty and skill. Because it isn’t. There are parts where the instrumentation shines throughout the song. For example, take the piano. Those deep yet gorgeous chords, in the beginning, helps set up a tranquil spirit that is pleasuring to the eats. Then there is the synthesizer, with the support of a drum kit, which is the backbone of the song’s tempo, especially during the upbeat chorus.
Also, there is a difference in the vocals. In “Checking In”, the singer-songwriter’s vocals are a mixture of soft, melodic, and pure. However, that is the case in “Good Intentions” as the song is sung in a lower range, showcasing earthen tones. Yet, there is a certain feeling of genuineness from the vocals that help to tell the story of a friendship that is no more. The song bears so many honest emotions in artist’s vocals that it feels like listeners can feel closer to it. And possibly relate to it personally.

Abi Mia’s latest single “Good Intentions” grapples with so many genuine emotions in an excellent way of songwriting. The instrumentation is the song’s backbone as each part serves many purposes in the tempo and mood. The singer displays a lower register in this song to show a more candid and down-to-earth side of the tune. But, don’t be mistaken as the vocals still have so much power, especially during the chorus. Each melodic line is filled with savory tones.
