It’s #SongLyricsSunday and this time it is about Canadian singers. Running down the list of Canadian musicians on Wikipedia, I spotted Chad Kroeger’s name on the list. Before you whip out a Nickelback meme, I beg you to continue reading my post as it isn’t about Nickelback. Instead, it’s about that one song that Kroeger did with Josey Scott for the Spiderman soundtrack back in 2002. What song? It’s “Hero”!
(This is part of a #SongLyricsSunday challenge, which is hosted by Jim at An Unique Title For Me. Anyone can join! Details on how to participate are found at the end of this post!)
They Say That a Hero Can Save Us
(Kroeger) had the idea for the song ‘Hero,’ so I came up to Vancouver and met him. He pitched me the idea, and I thought that was pretty dope. Real dope. So we sort of tweaked it, together, laid down some harmonies on it, and played everything from congas to acoustics on it.
Josey Scott (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero_(Chad_Kroeger_song))
“Hero” was a special collaboration between Nickelback’s Kroeger and Saliva’s Scott for the Spiderman soundtrack. The song was solely written by Kroeger. However, there has been a feud over who gets what in terms of profits. It got so bad that Scott actually insulted Nickelback in one of Saliva’s songs. Ouch.
The song also features some well-known musicians like Mike Kroeger (bassist of Nickelback), Tyler Connolly (lead singer/guitarist of Theory of a Deadman), and Matt Cameron (drummer of Soundgarden).
Serving as the main lead-in single for the soundtrack, “Hero” was in the top 10 in many countries’ charts. It was #1 in Canada, UK Rock and Metal, US Alternative Airplay, and US Mainstream Rock. It was in the top 10 in Belgium, Poland, Ireland, Denmark, Germany, Scotland, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland.
My Final Thoughts
This 2002 song is one of my favorites since it was released during my middle school years. I really like the post-grunge and alt-rock sound of the early 2000s. My favorite part of the song is the guitar solo during the bridge, it is such a refreshing rock sound. If you like a song that has an electrifying jolt, I recommend “Hero” as it(s alt-rock edginess brings out the best of the song.
Listen to “Hero” down below and let me know what you think in the comments!
Lyrics for “Hero
I am so high, I can hear heaven
I am so high, I can hear heaven
Whoa, but heaven, no, heaven don’t hear me
And they say that a hero could save us
I’m not gonna stand here and wait
I’ll hold on to the wings of the eagles
Watch as we all fly away
Someone told me love would all save us
But how can that be? Look what love gave us
A world full of killing and blood spilling
That world never came
And they say that a hero could save us
I’m not gonna stand here and wait
I’ll hold on to the wings of the eagles
Watch as we all fly away
(Ahh-ahh)
Now that the world isn’t ending
It’s love that I’m sending to you
It isn’t the love of a hero
And that’s why I fear it won’t do
And they say that a hero could save us
I’m not gonna stand here and wait
I’ll hold on to the wings of the eagles
Watch as we all fly away
And they’re watching us (Watching us)
They’re watching us (Watching us)
As we all fly away
And they’re watching us (Watching us)
They’re watching us (Watching us)
As we all fly away
And they’re watching us (Watching us)
They’re watching us (Watching us)
As we all fly away
Whoa
